Queer by Luca Guadagnino, based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, is a visually poetic film that delves into the human spirit through evocative imagery and an intimate, intense narrative.
The post-production process was one of the most delicate and challenging phases in the making of Queer, with a particular focus on conforming and color grading.
Conforming
Color Grading
- Conforming: The conforming phase was executed with meticulous precision, ensuring a perfect match between the studio-shot materials and director Luca Guadagnino’s creative vision. Attention to detail was paramount in maintaining visual and narrative coherence, especially given the large number of shots captured on green/blue screen. This stage required close collaboration with the creative team to seamlessly integrate visual elements while preserving the stylistic integrity of the project.
- Color Grading: Color correction was entrusted to Claudio, an experienced colorist who worked closely with cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom and director Luca Guadagnino. Using advanced Baselight technology, Claudio elevated Mukdeeprom’s extraordinary cinematography, tackling the unique challenges posed by a film featuring digitally recreated environments. The synergy between the colorist, the DOP, and the director was essential to achieving a visually cohesive and realistic result, without compromising the aesthetic and poetic complexity of the work.
